O. Henry's "Cabbages and Kings" is yet another capital "L" piece of Literature that surprised me by actually being good. Theoretically, I guess it's supposed to be 18 (or 19 since the first isn't numbered) short stories. But, the stories are intertwined and tell one overall story. So, in that sense, it's actually a novel. Anyway, it's nicely written with interesting characters and wonderful descriptions. The stories are sort of tongue-in-cheek and there's a nice twist at the end. I rate it at a Very Good 4 stars out of 5.Product details

its a good book
Great short stories. Better than I can find anywhere else
Contains many of the O.Henry stories based on his time in the Caribbean ~~~~
It was during this time he coined the phrase "Banana Republic" to represent any "fly by night operation.
I got this book not too long ago. If you have never read O. Henry you should. He has a style all his own and I'm sure you will enjoy. I'm a fan so the rating is not surprise.
I recommend O. Henry's writing to family and friends.
Humourous book, a little too much admiration for heavy drinking, but was written when that was more acceptable. Interesting characters are in this collection.
Short stories by the master. Remember these four names O Henry, Guy de Maupassant, Saki (H.H. Munro), and I.L. Peretz. These were the all-time masters of the short story. Read them, and forget everyone else.
I'm maybe somewhat preduiced, because I like everything that O'Henry wrote!
