The Trompowsky Attack is well known as an ambitious and aggressive opening. Initially an offbeat line favoured by club players, in recent history it has undergone somewhat of a transformation. Thanks to the efforts and innovations of Grandmasters such as Mickey Adams and Julian Hodgson, it has been fine-tuned into a powerful attacking weapon, and today it is seen as an important mainline opening in its own right. The Trompowsky leads to diverse positions, sharp or positional, and it also allows both sides to play creatively from the very early stages of the game. In this book, Richard Palliser studies the Trompowsky by going back to basics, introducing the key moves and ideas, and taking care to explain the reasoning behind them - something that has often been neglected or taken for granted.Everyman Chess's Starting Out series has firmly established itself as the leading guide to studying openings for up-and-coming players. These books are distinguished by their easy-to-read layout, the lucid explanations of the fundamentals, and the abundance of notes, tips and warnings to help the reader absorb vital ideas. Starting Out opening books are ideal for enthusiastic chess players who have little experience of the openings in question and who wish to appreciate the essential principles behind them.

Deciding to take up the trompowsky was probably the best descion I ever made. At one stroke, you cut your study time down by massive amounts, as you avoide the kings indian nimzo, benoni's and all the other theoretical mountains. I've had outstanding results with it and owe much of my improvement to chess in general to this opening. The tromp. is employed at the highest levels of chess today and more and more people are starting to see the excellent practical value of this wonderful opening. Im about 1800 USCF and I can tell you this is the most up to date guide available on the market. There is also plent of fresh original anaylsis with excellent notes and tips. Palliser has also been a long time devotee to this opening as well. Whether you play the tromp. or just want to stop treading the theoretical oceans and actually steer opponents into your territory then this book is a must buy.

Starting Out The Trompowsky Attack edition by Richard Palliser Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews

Since allows ludicrous reviews to be posted and drag down the rating of perfectly good books, this review is intended primarily to neutralize such a review by Farley. In fact Richard Palliser's book is a good introduction to the Closed Sicilian for the amateur player.
Once I saw two tv ads one advertised Ginseng knives; the other Vivarina stockings. The first said that Ginseng knives would cut ANYTHING; the other said that Vivarina stockings WOULDN'T be cut(torn) by anything. So I wondered if a woman bought both and tried to cut the stockings with the knives, which would win the "battle"?
Now Mr. Palliser comes with a book advertising the Closed Sicilian for white. But he's the same author who wrote "Fighting the Anti-Sicilians," where he showed Black how to fight(and win) against the Closed Sicilian, c3, and what have you. So if I buy one book and a friend buys the other, who's going to win?
Talk about potboilers in the chess world!!
I loved it got it for my birthday and it got here quick thank you
Thanks
Bran
This is a fine book; it serves as a good practical guide to playing the Closed Sicilian because Palliser pays enough attention to the each of the various possible move-orders and flexible responses, but it also contains a fair bit of general theems (such as the sacrifice on f5), not only through example games but also by textual explanation. A minor point of criticism would be that no theoretical verdict is given on the main lines, but that's slightly too much to ask from a 'Starting Out' book.
I have been playing Tromp for the last 6 years and played over 100 games with 2100+ rating performance (better than my current rating of 1985). Peter Wells is still the bible for this (hope he would come up with a 2nd edition). Pallisar gave a very good guidance on this opening. The statistics part was very useful and I was suprised to see Tromp scored very well in many lines - I think it deserves more popularity, especially if you compare it to "mainlines". Another great feature of this book is - it contains many recent games with top GMs - I didn't know it is played so often at that level. Any annotated game at 2700+ level is an excellent source to understand the opening. Pallisar has covered all the mainlines with good notes on the sidelines as well. Overall, anyone interested in tromp - This is a MUST buy.
